CASE STUDY: HCE

From Expertise to AI Answers: How HCE's Solutions content, built from client and expert interviews with Claude, earned AI search visibility

Expert-sourced content became the content AI cites

In 2026, Human Capital Education (HCE) rebuilt its Solutions page and subpages around first-hand knowledge from client and subject-matter-expert interviews, using Claude to turn those transcripts into AI-optimized content. In the first half of 2026, HCE’s audience in AI search grew from virtually zero to a peak of about 600,000 a month, and AI mentions of HCE rose 2.5x between January and July. The Solutions section, where most of HCE’s AI-optimized content lives, earns half of every HCE page that AI engines cite.

THE CHALLENGE

Buyers are asking AI, and AI cites specifics

Higher education leaders increasingly start their research by asking AI tools questions such as which partners help with enrollment growth or how to use analytics to improve enrollment outcomes. Tools like Google's AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, and Gemini answer by pulling from pages that address those questions directly and credibly.

Generic service copy rarely makes the cut. To be cited, a page needs the kind of specific, experience-based detail that usually lives in the heads of consultants and the stories of clients, not on a website. HCE's challenge was getting that knowledge out of conversations and onto its Solutions pages at scale.

THE APPROACH

Turning interviews into AI-ready Solutions content

Client & SME interviews

Drafted with Claude

Published on Solutions pages

    1. Capture real expertise. HCE interviewed clients and its own subject-matter experts about the problems they solve, the questions institutions ask, and the outcomes that matter.
    2. Use transcripts as source material. Rather than starting from a blank page, the team worked from verbatim interview transcripts, keeping the language and detail of people who do the work.
    3. Draft with Claude. HCE fed the transcripts into Claude, Anthropic’s AI model, to draft content structured around the questions buyers ask, with clear answers, defined services, and concrete specifics.
    4. Keep experts in the loop. HCE’s team reviewed and edited every draft for accuracy and voice before publishing.
    5. Concentrate on Solutions. The bulk of the AI-optimized content went to the Solutions page and its subpages, including Enrollment Optimization & Analytics, HCRC, and Custom Research Consulting.

Why this matters: The process pairs the speed of AI drafting with the credibility of first-hand expertise, the two qualities AI search engines weigh when choosing which sources to cite.

THE RESULTS

AI search visibility surged in 2026

HCE’s estimated AI audience was near zero through January 2026. It climbed to roughly 530,000 in February and peaked at about 600,000 in March, coinciding with HCE’s 2026 rollout of AI-optimized Solutions content. Audience estimates pulled back after the spring peak, a common pattern as AI platforms rotate the sources they draw on.
Brand mentions and citations in AI answers

Number of times AI platforms named HCE (mentions) and linked to humancapital.com as a source (citations). Approximate monthly values from Semrush.

Mentions rose from about 6 in January to about 22 in April, nearly a fourfold increase, and citations roughly doubled to about 15. The gains held: in July, mentions were still about 2.5 times January’s level and citations about 60% higher.

THE RESULTS, CONTINUED

The Solutions section is what AI engines cite

In the latest Semrush snapshot, of the six humancapital.com pages that AI engines cite, three are Solutions pages, and together they appear in six of nine page-level citations. The single most-cited page on the entire domain is a Solutions subpage.

WHY IT WORKED

Three signals connect the redesign to the gains

Timing. HCE’s AI search audience, mentions, and citations surged in early 2026, the same year HCE adopted its interview-to-Claude content process for the Solutions section.

Concentration. The Solutions section holds most of HCE’s AI-optimized content, and it earns half of all cited pages and the single most-cited URL on the domain. The pages AI engines cite most are the ones built with this process.

Relevance. The prompts that cite HCE, on enrollment growth consulting and enrollment analytics, match the topics the new Solutions content addresses, built from the knowledge of people who deliver that work.

Taken together, these signals show strong alignment between HCE’s adoption of AI-optimized, expert-sourced content and its gains in AI search, particularly in Google AI Overview.

WHAT'S NEXT

Building on the momentum

Through July, mentions and citations held well above pre-2026 levels, while audience estimates and HCE’s overall AI Visibility score (about 14 out of 100) eased from the spring peak. That pattern is common as AI engines refresh their sources, and it makes the case for treating this as an ongoing program rather than a one-time project.

Recommended next steps:

Expand the process to other sections of the site.

Refresh existing Solutions content with new interview material to rebuild momentum.

Extend wins beyond Google. AI Overview cites all six HCE pages today; ChatGPT and Gemini cite none, which is a clear opportunity.

Strengthen brand clarity so AI engines distinguish HCE from similarly named companies.

Methodology. Data: Semrush AI Visibility Overview for humancapital.com. Trend data covers September 2025 through July 2026; cited-page and prompt tables reflect the latest available snapshot. Platforms: ChatGPT, Google AI Overview, Google AI Mode, and Gemini (worldwide). Monthly trend values are approximate readings of Semrush charts; current totals are reported figures. Topics related to professional employer organizations (PEOs) reflect name confusion with unrelated companies and are excluded from this analysis. The findings show correlation between HCE’s content program and its AI search gains, not proven causation; other factors, including changes in how AI platforms select sources, may also contribute.
